Great Crested Newt Surveys – Act Now

As we are now in April, the sun is finally starting to shine and the weather is becoming warmer, don’t forget to instruct your great crested newt (GCN) surveys asap.

eDNA surveys can be undertaken from the 15th April – 30th June (inclusive).

If the eDNA samples are positive for GCN, or GCN have been identified in your water bodies already, you must undertake six aquatic surveys to determine the GCN population size. Three of the aquatic surveys must be within the tight window frame mid-April to mid-May!

Details regarding the survey timings can be found on the government guidance on great crested newt surveys.

Please contact Futures Ecology Ltd. if you would like any assistance with these.
